On the eastern shore of Fogo Island one finds the community of Tilting. For centuries it was a very active fishing harbour but like for many other coastal communities that is a thing of the past.
The is much evidence that agriculture was once an important supplemental activity at Tilting.

Who said there are no sandy beaches in the north? However, the black flies make it nearly impossible to bare any skin.
