We were used to seeing huge crab boats coming to the wharfs of harbours that we previously visited. So we were quite surprised when we realized that this fellow was also fishing crabs - and doing rather well:
On the outside of the wharf, along the shore, there were more docks for the smaller fishing boats:
There were not very many large fishing boats in the harbour. Apparently, they had gone north for the lobster season.
No, this is not a photo of some kid's pile of pebbles. They are actually huge colorful boulders piled up to form the jetty that protects the harbour:
I did not manage to get this photo until at least 2/3 of the gulls had flown away. They love to hang out here because the fish plant pumps water with useless pieces of lobster, crab, and fish into the harbour. It is like a buffet for them.
The town of Codroy sits above the harbour looking west:
The fish plant at the harbour was small but always a bee hive of activity:
Looking south along the shore:
The Angelican Church of Codroy:
A pretty resting place, overlooking the harbour which is the center of everyone's life:
In summary --- the guide book spoke of this place as a harbour of refuge that you only stopped at when the weather made it necessary. However, we found it a beautiful and friendly place with several opportunities for good walks and getting on top of hills. We will stop here again for sure.
