As the hills surrounding Bay Of Islands appear in the distance we steam along a very long low point of land called "Beach Point" or "Long Point" depending which book you read:
We duck behind Long Point late in the day in order to take shelter in a tiny harbour called Blue Beach Harbour. The place was like a ghost town.
We barely fit into this harbor which appears to be not much more than a gravel pit dug out of the shore. There are no services this far out and the only dwellings are small summertime cabins the fishermen have built:
There were signs that someone had been cutting up driftwood to use in their wood burning stoves:
